The deputy of the Congress Rakesh Rathore was arrested today in a case of violation filed against him, authorities said. Rathore, Lok Sabha deputy of Sitapur de Uttar Pradesh, was arrested when he held a press conference.
Police registered a case against Rathore, who is also general secretary of the UTTAR PRADESH unit of Congress, on January 17 after a complaint of a woman, who accused him of sexually exploiting during the last four years.
She claimed that he promised to marry her and make her political career. He also shared the details of the call and call recordings with the police.
Last week, the woman’s husband also filed a separate complaint against five people, claiming that Rathore and her son were pressing the family to liquidate the case.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Lucknow Bank of the Superior Court of Allahabad rejected its early bail request and asked him to surrender. Before the Superior Court, the MP-MLA Court in Sitapur had rejected its early bail statement on January 23.
Before joining Congress, Rathore fought against the elections of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly as an independent BJP candidate. He previously associated with former Uttar Prime Minister Pradesh, the Bahujan Samaj party of Mayawati.
