A nurse has been suspended in a government hospital in Karnataka, which used Fevikwik instead of sewing the wound.
The decision to suspend it was taken at a meeting convened on Wednesday under the presidency of the main secretary of the state government.
According to a statement from the Office of Health and Family Welfare Services of the commissioner, “Fevikwik is an adhesive solution that is not allowed for medical use according to regulations. In this case, the nurse of the person responsible for the careless of duty using fevikwik for The treatment of the child suspended after a preliminary report and awaiting greater investigation according to the rules. ” The incident occurred on January 14 at the Adoor Primary Health Center in Hanagal Taluk, Haveri district, when Gurukishan Annappa Hosamani, seven, who was bleeding profusely from a deep wound on the cheek, was brought by his parents.
The parents had recorded a video of the nurse shrinking from their concern by saying that she had been doing this for years and that this was better since the suture points would leave a permanent scar on the child’s face.
Later they filed an official complaint and presented the video too.
Despite the evidence of the video, instead of suspending Jyoti, the authorities transferred it to another health center, the Guttal Health Institute in Haveri Taluk-on on February 3, causing more public outrage.
It is reported that the child who underwent this treatment has good health, and instructions have been issued to the interested health authorities to monitor any adverse effect, added the press release
