Locking in a three -way fighting for a quarter -final position, Karnataka will have the experience of KL Rahul to be in search of a bonus point victory over the Haryana table in his last match in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group C League C , starting here Thursday. Karnataka currently has 19 points and Haryana has 26 points, but Kerala with 21 points is pressing both teams. If the former champions handle a victory of Point Bonus (7 points) at the M Chinnaswamy stadium, their account will swell at 26 points.
In that scenario, the local team can enter the last eight, either as the upper team or the second place team in the group, depending on Kerala’s departure against Bihar in Thumbba, Thiruvananthapuram.
A victory even without a bonus point will take Kerala to 27 points, and will end as leaders of Group C.
In that case, Haryana, which will remain at 26 points, will be knocked out since Karnataka will have more bonus points (2) in her credit than Haryana (1).
The Toppers groups are decided by virtue of Bonus Point wins this season compared to the net execution rate or direct record, since it has been the case in the previous editions of the tournament.
If Karnataka gets six points here, then they will have 25 points and will have to wait for Kerala to get nothing more than a tie against Bihar, which will then have a maximum of 24 points.
If the game here ends in a draw and Karnataka obtains the first entry of the first tickets by three points, then the eight -time champions will have 22 points and will require Kerala to go against Bihar to advance to the quarterfinals.
For Kerala and Haryana, a draw is enough to fulfill its purpose.
KL Rahul Boost for Karnataka
This will be Rahul’s first game since 2020, and could not have arrived at a more appropriate time.
Karnataka coach Yere Goud said the experienced batter will go to number 3 against Haryana.
“He brings a lot of experience and also adds a lot of value to the side in all aspects of the game. We will see who (Rahul will replace in the eleven) … depending on the conditions and who adapts to where.
“But Rahul could be hitting at number 3,” Goud told reporters here.
Goud said that the pacemaker Vidwath Kaverappa has recovered well from a shin injury and will enter the eleven against Haryana.
Despite the return of two star artists, Goud remained aware of the difficult challenge ahead.
“If you start thinking about 7 points, then it is always a difficult task. We try to play as well as we can in the three departments, as we did in the last game.
“We will try to continue doing that. Then, we will try to maximize and whoever enters has to make it great and show a lot of discipline in the department of bowling too,” he added.
