Palm Beach, United States:
The United States Army held air attacks on the objectives of the Islamic State Group in Somalia on Saturday, President Donald Trump announced.
“This morning I ordered precision military air attacks on the ISIS attack planner and other terrorists who recruited and directed in Somalia,” Trump said in Truth Social.
The Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegesh, said the attacks attacked Somalia agents in the Golis mountains in the semi -autonomous region of Puntlandia. “Our initial evaluation is that multiple agents were killed in air attacks and that civilians were not damaged,” Hegseth said in a statement.
The local commanders confirmed the strikes to the AFP.
“Until now, we do not know the number of victims, but we believe that the missiles precisely reach the objectives,” Mohamed Ali, a military commander in the Bossaso area, told AFP.
“We believe there are victims of terrorist leaders, including foreigners who were pursuing forces in recent days,” he said.
Abdirahman Adan, another member of the army in a nearby area, said they heard “five strong explosions” and saw smoke on the target area.
Puntland has not officially commented on the air attack so far.
Hegseth said that attacks further degrade the “ISIS to plan and carry out terrorist attacks that threaten US citizens, our innocent civilians and send a clear sign that the United States is always ready to find and eliminate terrorists who They threaten the United States and our allies and our allies.
The Islamic State has a relatively small presence in Somalia compared to the Al-Shabaab linked to Al-Qaeda, but experts have warned about the growing activity.
“The message to Isis and all the others that would attack Americans is that ‘we will find you and kill you!'” Trump said in his publication.
