The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday (March 21, 2025) said they are not aware of PhD candidate Ranjani Srinivasan getting in touch with the Indian embassy and consulates. “We learnt about her departure from the U.S. through media reports,” the official spokesperson of MEA Randhir Jaiswal said.
Ms. Srinivasan, a student at the prestigious Columbia University in the U.S., “self-deported” or voluntarily left the United States after her visa was revoked for allegedly “advocating for violence and terrorism” and involvement in activities supporting the Palestinian group Hamas.
She entered the United States on a F-1 student visa as doctoral student in Urban Planning at Columbia University. According to the the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Srinivasan was involved in activities supporting Hamas, a designated terrorist organization. On March 5, 2025, the Department of State revoked her visa. The Department of Homeland Security has obtained video footage of her using the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Home App to self-deport on March 11.
