If the Tamil Nadu government continues to delay the conduct of the caste survey, which is a prelude to the caste census, then the time is not too far so that its drama is automatically exposed, Tamilaga president Vettri Kazhagam said Thursday.
In a statement, Mr. Vijay said that since independence, the census of castes was not carried out in India. There has been a lawsuit throughout the country to carry out the caste census. During the inaugural TVK conference in Vikravandi and at its first meeting of the General Council, the party had approved resolutions in favor of making the caste census.
“The Constitution has a provision for state governments to carry out caste surveys. States like Bihar and Karnataka had already completed such caste surveys. Recently, the Telangana government completed the caste survey in a period of 50 days and began to discuss it in the assembly. Why the Government of Tamil Nadu, who boasts that some of his schemes are being adopted and implemented in other states, in doubt in following them in conducting caste surveys that forms the basis of social justice, ”said Vijay.
He also claimed that the state government continues to deceive the people of Tamil Nadu by not conducting the caste survey. “It was periyar [social reformer E.V. Ramasamy]One of the ideological icons of our party, which organized agitation and, therefore, played an instrumental role in the modification of the Constitution with respect to the reserve system. The current dispensation of the decision in the State, which states that the periyar is our leader, continues to argue that they do not have the power to carry out a caste census, ”he said. He also claimed that both the union and state governments are traveling on the same way with respect to the census of caste, he accused.
