The Federal Aviation Administration said that the collision in the air occurred around 9 PM (EST) when a regional plane that had been separated from Wichita, Kansas, crashed into a Blackhawk military helicopter while approaching an airport track. In the audio from the air traffic control tower around the time of the accident, a controller is heard asking the helicopter: “Pat25 has the CRJ in sight”, in reference to the passenger aircraft, according to Associated Press.
