A marathon phone call of over two hours between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Tuesday focused on a peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine and the United States’ proposal for a 30-day immediate ceasefire.
The two leaders spoke about the need for peace and ceasefire in Ukraine and agreed that the ongoing conflict “needs to end with a lasting peace”. They also agreed that the movement to peace will begin with an energy and infrastructure ceasefire, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted on X.
“The leaders agreed that the movement to peace will begin with an energy and infrastructure ceasefire, as well as technical negotiations on implementation of a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, full ceasefire and permanent peace. These negotiations will begin immediately in the Middle East,” she said.
