The president of the United States, Donald Trump, and British prime minister, Keir Starmer, spoke on Sunday in a wide conversation about Gaza and the economy, promising to meet “soon.”
Starmer praised Trump for his “role in ensuring historical homicide and hostage agreement in Gaza”, since the couple discussed the “importance of working together for security in the Middle East”, according to a reading of the call from Downing Street.
Meanwhile, Trump welcomed the launch of the British dual British-Israelí Emily Damari, which Hamas released a week ago.
The two leaders also talked about “how both countries can promote a fair bilateral economic relationship,” according to a White House reading, with the Starmer’s office that highlights the United Kingdom’s efforts “deregulate to boost growth.”
The couple also “agreed to meet soon,” said Downing Street, emphasizing “the importance of near and warm ties” between the two countries.
Trump, a fan of the monarchy of Great Britain, also “expressed his good wishes for the British royal family,” said the White House.
The United States Republican opened the call offering condolences for the death of Starmer Nick’s brother last month.
The new Labor Government of Great Britain, chosen in July, has spent months trying to build bridges with the Trump team.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who once called Trump a “tyrant in a toupee”, this week praised his “incredible grace”, remembering a dinner that he and Starmer had with Trump in New York in September.
Then, on Saturday, Trump applauded Starmer, saying he was doing “a very good job.”
The comments occur after Starmer recently received the receiving end of the brutal verbal attacks from Elon Musk, a close ally of Trump and the richest man in the world.
