President Trump is considering allowing Nippon Steel of Japan to complete his acquisition of US Steel of $ 14.1 billion, according to multiple sources.
The approval of the transaction is not definitive, and Trump has not made a final decision, the sources say.
It meets with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ihiba on Friday and is expected to discuss the merger, along with automotive problems and tariffs. In the Oval office, sitting next to the Japanese prime minister, Trump told journalists that he has not changed his mind in the sale.
It is not known immediately if Nippon has offered more concessions, as he did last month when he proposed to give the authority of the direct veto of the United States government about any change in the production capacity of Us Steel. The proposal represented a minor change to a recommendation of the Foreign Investment Committee in the United States, a review panel known as CFIUS. This change was destined to calm the concerns that the purchase proposed by the US steel of Nippon Steel could lead to a decrease in the production of national steel and a reduction in its workforce of the United States.
The change proposed in the so -called mitigation agreement would give all the power of decision -making on changes in production capacity to the United States government.
This is a development story.
