After months of displacement and chaos, thousands of Palestinians finally return to Norther Gaza. The images appeared online show happy faces of the citizens who return to their homes after several months. As part of the Alto El Fuego de Israel-Mayo, Israel opened the north for the first time. These people were displaced and protected in miserable tents camps and ancient schools during the war.

More than 200,000 people moved on Monday

The United Nations said that more than 200,000 people were observed who moved north in Gaza on Monday morning. The Palestinians who have been taking refuge in miserable tents camps and ancient schools feared that Israel did not allow them to return to their homes. However, the current condition of the North Gaza is quite opposite to what it was before the war, but people are happy to return to their roots.

According to the photos shared from the place, the cheerful crowds of Palestinians, some holding babies or pushing wheelchairs, walked along a coastal path all day and until night, carrying rolls, water bottles and other belongings.

Yasmin Abu Amshah, a mother of three children, said he walked 6 km to reach his house as a damaged but habitable city. He saw his younger sister for the first time in more than a year. “It was a long, but happy trip,” he said.

Ismail Abu Matter, a father of four children who waited days near the crossing point for northern Gaza, described jubilation scenes, with people singing, praying and crying. “It is the joy of the return,” said Abu Matter, whose relatives were among the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who fled or were expelled from what Israel is now during the 1948 war that surrounds its creation. “We thought we would not come back, like our ancestors.”

Israel’s military campaign was launched in response to the attack of the Hamas militant group, on October 7, 2023, in southern Israel. The high fire is destined to lower the most deadly and more destructive war ever fought between Israel and Hamas. The militants killed some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, in the assault on October 7 and kidnapped another 250.

Israel responded with an air and land war that has killed more than 47,000 Palestinians, more than half of them women and children, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. It does not say how many of the dead were combatants. Israel says he has killed more than 17,000 militants, without providing evidence. In total, around 90 percent of the 2.3 million people in Gaza have been displaced.
