England’s Dismal Performance Scorched by Ashwin
England’s recent tour of India ended in a humiliating 3-0 ODI series defeat and a 4-1 T20I series loss, leaving legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin fuming. Ashwin’s ire was particularly directed at England’s seemingly lackadaisical approach and their feeble excuses after their failures.
Ben Duckett, England’s opener, drew Ashwin’s wrath after suggesting that losing the ODI series mattered little as long as they triumphed in the Champions Trophy. “Such arrogance,” Ashwin retorted on his YouTube channel. “This loss will dent their confidence heading into the Champions Trophy.”
Ashwin also condemned Duckett’s past remarks, in which he attributed India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal’s aggressive batting style to England’s “Bazball” approach. “Hiding behind humor won’t erase your failures,” Ashwin exclaimed.
“England’s excuses after defeats are a recurring theme,” Ashwin continued. “Their performance has been dismal for years, not just months. With their talented squad, they’re squandering their potential.”
Even in Test cricket, Ashwin pointed out Ben Stokes’ confusion about the World Test Championship points system. “First, understand the rules before making excuses,” Ashwin advised. “Endless excuses after losses are simply unacceptable.”
England faces a formidable challenge in the 2025 Champions Trophy, where they will clash with Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan. Given their recent struggles, their path to glory seems fraught with obstacles, despite their past World Cup triumphs.
