In a message sent to the project implementation partners on Saturday, the order was transmitted by the USAID to its partners in Bangladesh.
In his letter, USAID ordered all the USAID/Bangladesh implementing partners to “stop or immediately suspend any work under the USAID/Bangladesh contract, work order, subsidy, cooperative agreement or other instrument of assistance or acquisition.”
The suspension is seen as part of a broader review of the allocation of foreign aid. The order covers all existing foreign assistance, except for military financing to Israel and Egypt. The measure is likely to stop critical aid programs, since it will ensure that billions of dollars in assistance to save lives are suspended.
