Washington:

The administration of President Donald Trump plans to keep less than 300 employees in the United States Agency for the International Development of the World Cup of the Agency of more than 10,000, four sources told Reuters on Thursday.

The main humanitarian aid agency in Washington has been the objective of a government reorganization program headed by businessman Elon Musk, a nearby Trump ally, since the Republican President assumed the position on January 20.

The four sources familiar with the Plan said that only 294 agency employees could maintain their jobs, including only 12 in the African office and eight in the Asia office.

“That is scandalous,” said J. Brian Atwood, who served as USAID head for more than six years, adding that the mass termination of the staff would effectively kill an agency that has helped prevent dozens of millions of millions of millions of millions of people around the world.

“Many people will not survive,” said Atwood, now the main member of the Watson Institute of Brown University.

The United States Department of State did not respond to a request for comments.

With Trump and Musk, the richest man in the world, leveling false accusations that his staff was a criminal, dozens of USAID staff have been licensed, hundreds of internal contractors have been fired and programs of salvation of the entire life in the world. .

The Administration announced on Tuesday that it was going to license all USAID employees directly hired worldwide, and would remember thousands of staff who worked abroad.

The Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said the administration was identifying and designating programs that would be exempt from the work stop orders, which have threatened efforts worldwide to stop the spread of the disease, prevent famine and relieve Poverty

The USAID implementation partners face financial problems in the back of the state department’s stop orders.

Fusing Usaid with the State

The review will turn the lives of thousands of staff and their families.

The objective of the administration is to merge USAID with the State Department led by Rubio, whom Trump has made the interim administrator of Usaid. However, it is not clear that it can merge the agencies unless Congress votes to do so, since Usaid was created and is funded by laws that remain in force.

USAID used more than 10,000 people worldwide, two thirds of them outside the United States, according to the Congress Research Service (CRS). He managed more than $ 40 billion in fiscal year 2023, the most recent year for which there are complete data.

Sources familiar with events in the agency on Thursday said that some workers had begun to receive termination notices.

The USAID website said that as of midnight on Friday, February 7, “all USAID direct rental personnel will be put on administrative license worldwide, with the exception of designated personnel responsible for the critical functions of the mission , central leadership and specially designated programs. “

He said that the essential personnel expected to continue working would be informed on Thursday at 3 pm est.

The agency provided helping about 130 countries in 2023, many of them shattered by conflicts and deeply impoverished. The main recipients were Ukraine, followed by Ethiopia, Jordan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, Yemen and Afghanistan, according to the CRS report.
