Guwahati: The Unit of the Manipur Congress has sounded a warning without confidence against the government led by the Bharatiya Janata party during the next session of the State Assembly of 60 members.

The president of the State Congress, Keisham Meghachandra, on Friday (February 7, 2025) said his party was ready to move the motion of non -confidence soon. The assembly session in the state capital begins on February 10.
“The Brahmastra missile will surely reach one of the double engines,” he published in X, indicating the manipur government headed by Prime Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh.
Mr. Meghachandra is one of the five MLA of Congress.
Speculations about a motion of non -confidence control abounded after the veteran leader of the Congress and former prime minister, Okram Ibobi Singh, directed a delegation to the Rave Bhavan to inform Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla of an alleged threat of Mr. Biren Singh . The meeting indicated the decision of the party to transfer a motion of without trust.
“There was an event organized by the BJP in its central office (in Imphal) on January 14, 2025. At that meeting, Prime Minister N. Biren Singh mentioned that any MLA that moves a motion of distrust cannot stay in the house as will be persecuted by people, ”said Ibobi Singh after the meeting with the governor.
A Congress official in Imphal said that a relevant rule allows a MLA to present a written notice to the Secretary of the Assembly for a movement permit that expresses a lack of confidence in the Council of Ministers. The license is granted if the speaker considers that the motion is in order and there are at least 10 mla in his favor.
According to local media reports, a section of BJP legislators who are not happy with the management of ethnic conflict by the principal minister can provide support to the motion of non -confidence. The reports also hinted at a division in the BJP with two MLA series visiting Delhi to meet with the leaders of the Central Party.
Although incident free for more than two months, Manipur has been marked by ethnic confrontations between the Kuki-Zo and MEITEI tribal communities since May 2023. The conflict left more than 250 people dead and about 60,000 displaced. Eom
