The largest Hindu temple appeared in Johannesburg, South Africa, Sunday. The occasion was marked by the presence of dozens of faithful, who participated in the consecration ceremony. The faithful arrived before dawn to participate in the ceremony, directed by Mahant Swami Maharaj, 92, the spiritual leader of the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (Baps).
Baps calls it ‘largest Hindu cultural complex’
According to a BAPS spokesman, the Foundation seeks the site to emerge as a center for the ‘intercultural and intelligious’ dialogue. On its Facebook page, Baps has called the temple “the largest Hindu cultural complex in the southern hemisphere,” says a report.
Before the Consecration event, a significant number of monks led the Nagar Yatra procession in Johannesburg on Saturday, which was marked by devotional music, since they were accompanied by bands and marching dancers. The temple site has been chosen since there is a substantial number of expatriate Hindus that move to the city from other regions of the country.
The largest temple in the United States: APS Swaminarayan Akshardham
Last year in October, APS Swaminarayan Akshardham, the largest Hindu temple in the United States, distributed in 185 acres, was inaugurated, as the devotees stressed the message of unity, peace and harmony of the temple for people living in all states United and the world.
Akshardham’s great dedication ceremony in Robbinsville, New Jersey, was held in the presence of Mahant Swami Maharaj after a nine -day celebration that began on September 30.
The construction of the temple, dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan, began in 2011 and concluded this year. It was created by 12,500 volunteers from around the world. Among the diverse unique key characteristics of the temple is the largest elliptical dome ever built from stone.
Created by volunteers around the world, the temple stands as a lasting symbol of love while preserving traditions and spreads messages of peace, hope and harmony in all generations.
