In a moving turn of events, a dog in Thailand who became famous for his loyalty to his dead owner has been adopted by a princess, the Independent reported.
Princess Siribha Chudabhorn, niece of King Maha Vajiralongkorn from Thailand, has adopted Moo Daeng, the dog that gained fame after its homeless owner died outside a 7-eleven in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima in November 2024.
The dog remained in its usual place, waiting for its dead owner to return, making comparisons with the history of Hachiko, the loyal Akita who waited for its owner to return home for nine years at the Tokyo Shibuya station.
In January, Moo Daeng photos became viral on social networks when the staff and owners of a close convenience store served it, providing food, blankets and a teddy toy for comfort. The dog was affectionately nicknamed Korat’s “hashiko” after the neighborhood where he lived.
Last week, Princess Chudabhorn went to Moo Daeng followers on her official Facebook page, saying: “For all Moo Daeng fans, I want to catch up so you don’t have to worry, feel anxious or have questions without Answer after all recent drama, “said Khaosod English.
He explained that he first learned about Moo Daeng through a video that shows the community raising funds for medical care. She also revealed that he suffered from severe depression.
“All my dogs have experienced trauma, either through abuse, abandonment or injury. But in the case of Moo Daeng, it is severe depression,” he said, describing his condition as a major depressive syndrome triggered by sudden loss of a loved one.
“It is a condition with which the mind cannot face,” added the princess, sharing that she has also lived with a similar fight for almost a decade.
She emphasized the importance of understanding mental health problems, noting that, although humans often mask their pain, dogs express their emotions openly. “If it is not recognized, this condition could cause irreparable damage to Moo Daeng, both mentally and physically,” he warned.
When reassuring her followers, Princess Chudabhorn said she had no intention of distancing Moo Daeng from her followers. She promised to share photos on request and bring it if you visit Korat.
Before adopting Moo Daeng, he obtained permission from the 7-Eleven local store, where he had been living and local authorities. Since then, he has been taken to the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Kasetsart for health, quarantine and acclimatization controls.
Once its medical evaluation completes, Moo Daeng will permanently move to the Royal Residence of the Princess in Chiang Mai.
