Telangana BC Commission sought an explanation from the Vikarabad district collector and the secretary of the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society over their lack of response regarding a student’s attempt to end life at a government social welfare hostel.
The commission had earlier written to both officials, demanding a detailed inquiry and a report within ten days after a Class 10 student allegedly attempted to end life allegedly due to harassment by a teacher. However, with no response forthcoming, the commission is now pressing for answers.
Expressing serious concern over the incident, BC Commission Chairman G. Niranjan questioned the district collector about the repeated cases of student harassment by teachers. “It is alarming that such incidents keep recurring in educational institutions. Strict action must be taken against those responsible to ensure the safety and well-being of students,” he said.
On March 3, the student who attempted to end her life fractured her leg. Instead of informing the authorities or her parents, hostel staff reportedly took her to a private hospital for treatment and allegedly threatened her against revealing the reason behind the incident.
