The veteran batter Steve Smith completed his 10,000 test test with his first scoring shot on day 1 of the first test against Sri Lanka here at the Galle International Stadium on Wednesday. The substitute pattern became the fourth Australian man to reach a weird milestone and the 15th man in general in achieving the feat. The 35 -year -old joined Allan Border, Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting as Australians to reach 10,000 tests. Interestingly, the three were captains of the test team when they made their 10,000 career.
Spinner of left arm Prabath Jayasuriya for a single in mid -entries, the fifth fastest batter for tickets to reach 10,000 tests.
In terms of matches, only Brian Lara (111) has reached the milestone in less evidence than Smith’s 115. Lara, Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara (all took 195 tests) and Ricky Ponting (196) are the only hitters who have reached him in less tickets.
Among the Australians, only former Captain Ricky Ponting has crossed the milestone faster in just 196 entries.
Smith has compiled its races to an average of more than 55, with Kumar Sangakkara as the only batter beyond 10,000 figures with a better return (57.40). Among active players, only the 12,972 tests account is higher than Smith’s.
Having lost his fairy tale moment in front of his local crowd in the SCG against India when he was fired with his career account in 9,999 races, Smith scored his 10,000 race in the first ball he faced on Wednesday.
The right hand hit 137/2 in the opening session and hit a single until mid -Prabath Jayasuriya, winning applause from the crowd, before sharing a hug with his bat partner, Usman Khawaja.
