Spanish football may have triumphed on the international stage in the male and female game in recent years, but outside the countryside it is still involved in a series of judicial cases. The highest profile begins on Monday when the former head of the Federation, Luis Rubiales, is tried for his forced kiss to Jenni Hermoso who shocked the world. Rubiales resigned in disgrace in September 2023, with Pedro Rocha taking his position, although his reign was of short duration. After the men in Spain raised the 2024 Eurocup trophy, Rocha was suspended for exceeding their duties to fire the secretary of the Federation, Andreu Camps, among other infractions.
A few months before, Rocha was under investigation as part of a corruption case committed under the presidency of Luis Rubiales.
Since then, the Federation has been under government supervision, which expects to help recover stability at a time when the country is preparing to co-elanfitrion of the 2030 World Cup with Portugal and Morocco.
Rafael Lozan assumed the position of President on December 16 in a period of four years, however, sweating a verdict in another judicial case, which could immerse the Federation in even more agitation.
After having been forbidden to have a public office after being convicted of embezzlement as long as he directs another public body, the confirmation of this prayer would force Louz to resign.
If this happened, Louzan could become the fourth consecutive president of the Spanish Football Federation that was forced to resign due to his participation in legal cases.
The predecessor of Rubiales, Angel Maria Villar, was expelled in 2018 after being suspended the previous year, when he and his son were arrested under suspicion of corruption, among several other accusations.
