An oil tanker full of liquefied oil gas exploded in an industrial area in the province of Punjab in Pakistan, killing at least six people, including a younger girl, and hurting 31, authorities said Monday.

The incident took place in the industrial state in the area of Hamid Pur Kanora de fine, according to rescue authorities.

The explosion in the LPG oil tanker that occurred on Monday caused a mass fire, with debris of the shattered vehicle that landed in nearby residential areas, causing significant destruction, Geo News reported.

Rescue officials said the fire was extinguished after hours of effort, which involved more than ten fire vehicles and foam fire suppression.

Initially, it was reported that a total of five people lost their lives in the deadly explosion. However, the death toll increased to six after rescue officials recovered another body from a house damaged by the explosion.

The deceased includes a younger girl and two women, the report added.

Police reported that at least 20 houses surrounding the explosion site were completely reduced to the debris, while 70 were partially damaged.

The police officer of the city of fine (CPO) Sadiq Ali told Geo News that several houses were destroyed, and the cattle perished in the fire.

He said the gas had leaked from one of the valves of the oil truck parked in the industrial state. Some of the people present in the area had already evacuated after smelling the gas before the oil company exploded, he added.

Ali also declared that the oil leak of the oil company persists, which leads to the authorities to evacuate the area. Among the injured, 13 are reported that they are in critical condition.

The district emergency officer confirmed that an emergency was declared at the Nishtar Hospital, where the injured receive treatment.

Search operations are ongoing in adjacent locations to guarantee security. The supply of electricity and gas in the area has been suspended as a precautionary measure, although the fine-muzaffarh road has now been reopened by traffic.

Meanwhile, the locals have been advised to remain away from the explosion site, since the gas of the exploited tank truck is in the air.

Later, the Police revealed that the incident location was identified as an illegal LPG recharge warehouse and the explosion occurred during recharge operations. They said the LPG was transferring a large gas bowser to smaller trailers and commercial cylinders on the site.

Police also declared that the great gas bowser supposedly wore the smuggling LPG. They added that five small and large omens of gas present in the warehouse were destroyed in the explosion, they added.
