“These Bangladesh statements are in fact responsible for persistent negativity,” Jaiswal said.
“The comments attributed to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have been made in their individual capacity in which India does not have to perform. Complying with the position of the Indian government will not help and positivity to bilateral relations,” he said.
“While the government of India will make efforts for a mutually beneficial relationship, we hope that Bangladesh corresponds in a similar way without vitiating the atmosphere,” Mea’s spokesman said.
The Declaration of the MEA occurs a day after India expressed anguish for the vandalism of the house of the founder of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and said that the “act of vandalism” should be strongly condemned.
