Shahid Kapoor joked a connection between Deva and the iconic classic cult of 1975 Deewaar, suggesting that there is a ‘relevance’ of the iconic Vijay character of Amitabh Bachchan in his next film. In Deva, Kapoor rehearses the role of a brilliant but challenging police officer. The action thriller is directed by Rosshan Andrrews and is also starring Pooja Hegde and Pavail Gulati.
The movie Teaser poster, which came out earlier this month, introduced Shahid smoking a cigarette in front of a Bachchan mural of Deewaar like Vijay, the spring fighter with a Beedi hanging from his lips. When asked about the connection between Deva and Deewaar, the actor told PTI in a round table interview, “this question should be for Rosshan because he was the one who chose that (visual).” (But) there is a relevance (from the Deewaar character of Bachchan) within the film. “
Deewaar, who turned 50 on January 21, is counted among the best Hindi films of all time. Directed by Yash Chopra, the action drama was written by Salim-Javed. The 1975 film revolved around two impoverished brothers Vijay (Bachchan) and Ravi (Shashi Kapoor) struggling to survive in the low neighborhoods of Mumbai. When they grow, the older brother, Vijay, resorts to the crime, while the youngest Ravi becomes an honest police officer.
Shahid, who grew up idolizing Bachchan, then said he is “an actor too small to comment” about Deewaar’s importance in Hindi cinema. “A performance in a film like that makes each actor feel humble. Speaking of Amit Ji, we have all grown up seeing it, we have idolized it as a star.
The film had a strong story, a very good interpersonal dynamic, great dialogues and star performances. It is a great memory for all of us, “he told PTI. Produced by Roy Kapur Films in collaboration with Zee Studios, Deva will arrive on the screens on January 31.
