Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar praised Tilak Varma for his outstanding performance against England in the second T20I in Chennai. He seems very impressed with Tilak’s calm approach and his ability to guide his team to victory under pressure.

When most batsmen struggled on a difficult pitch, Tilak held his nerve and scored an unbeaten 72 runs. After ensuring India’s victory in the final, he won the Player of the Match award.

“The confidence he has is that he will be able to see India through to the end, and even in this chase, there was no panic around the 18th over. Even in the 19th over, you could see that India were not getting the boundary that could ease the pressure. But I was very happy to be there pretty much until the end,” Sanjay Manjrekar said in ESPNCricinfo’s Time is up.

Tilak Varma’s confidence and composure remind Manjrekar of MS Dhoni, known for finishing matches with a cool head. The former Indian cricketer has pointed out that even when India struggled to find boundaries in the final overs, Tilak maintained his composure and focused on staying till the end.

“He seems to be a guy who has confidence and is the man who can take his team forward, just like we had a legend in the past called Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who had the same confidence. “So when you have a player like him, batting at number 3, he may be taking on that role, which is not so bad,” he added.

Tilak Varma’s T20I Statistics

Tilak Verma, who plays for Mumbai Indians in IPL, has so far played only 22 T20I cricket matches and scored 707 runs. He has been undefeated in his last 4 innings, bringing his batting average to 58.91. He has also scored 2 centuries in his last 4 innings.

On January 25, India played the second T20 match against England in the ongoing five-match series. Batting first, England set a target of 166. While the entire top order struggled to score and came out without scoring many runs, Tilak Varma was not out and took India home in the final over. He was not out in 72.
