India team veterans, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, limited their brilliant T20I races last week, announcing their respective format retirements after the success of the World Cup T20 in Barbados. After Kohli confirmed that the final against South Africa was his last T20i game for India, Rohit, surely afterwards, the lawsuit followed. A day later, the all -terrain Ravindra Jadaja also joined and announced his removal of the format as well. Amid the ongoing debates about his uncertain future in the Indian team, Batter Shubman Gill has now revealed that it was not a guarantee if Rohit and Kohli would play the T20 World Cup last year.
Gill said that seeing Rohit and Kohli lift the T20 World Cup together was a satisfactory time for him.
“After the World Cup (2023 Odi), we were not sure if Rohit Bhai or Virat Bhai would play in the World Cup T20 and see them win that tournament was very satisfactory to me. I think that with that victory, we broke the jinx not winning An ICC trophy and I really believe that this is the beginning of something magical and special for the Indian Cricket team, “Gill said while talking in the Disney + Hotstar show with Gill.
Gill, who was part of the reserves for the tournament, also revealed that he did not see the whole game, and only turned on television during the last overs.
“Wining the 2024 World Cup was extremely satisfactory. I remember that I was practicing in Washington at that time with my best friends and mentors. I saw the last four overs; I did not see the whole game, but seeing those last overs and watching the finals and seeing The American victory was a great relief, especially after the previous Odi World Cup, “he added.
India managed to win the final despite South Africa at a stage that needed only 30 races of so many balls.
“This was my last T20 World Cup, and this is what we wanted to achieve,” Kohli said after the game. “One day you feel that you can’t run, then things happen. God is great, and I did the work for the team the day I mattered. Now or never, the last T20 for India, I wanted to do the maximum of that.” Kohli said in the middle of the celebration of India.
“This was my last game (T20I) too. It is not a better time to say goodbye to this format. I loved every moment. I started my career in India playing this format. This is what I wanted, I wanted to win the Cup.
