The employees of the Pinarayi Panchayat office in Kannur, Kerala, have claimed that the local leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] He entered the office and issued death threats to implement the order of the Superior Court of Kerala to eliminate flexible boards, flags and flags on the road.
The incident, which, according to the reports, occurred around 4 pm on January 24, 2025, involved the local Pinarayi Secretary of the party, Nandan, and the member of the Nikhil Local Committee, which allegedly threatened to “cut the hands and legs of employees. “
Protesting against threats, Panchayat employees organized a ‘silent demonstration’ on Tuesday (January 28, 2025) covering their mouths and holding banners. Employees said they were “forced to implement the court order.”
A Protestant member said that the Superior Court had previously directed the elimination of flags and related structures of the edges that represented danger and obstructed traffic. This was discussed during a meeting of all parties where political representatives, including members of the CPI (M), agreed to comply. However, when the party members did not act, Panchayat employees undertook the task, since the breach would have held the secretary of Panchayat responsible for the fines.
In particular, many of the Protestant employees belong to left -wing organizations.
Although employees have not yet formally filed any complaint, the Panchayat Administrative Committee called an emergency meeting to address the matter.
Pinarayi police confirmed that, although there was a protest, a complaint has not been filed so far.
