San Francisco, United States:
Operai Chief Sam Altman said Friday that his high -profile artificial intelligence company is “on the wrong side of history” when it comes to being open about how its technology works.
Altman’s comments arrived during an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, where he sent questions, included if he would consider publishing OpenAi research.
Altman replied that he was in favor of the idea and that it is a topic of discussion within Operai, based in San Francisco.
“Personally, I think we have been on the wrong side of the story here and we need to find a different open source strategy,” said Altman.
“Not everyone in Openai shares this opinion, and it is not our top current priority.”
The newcomer from AI Chino, Deepseek, has reached the holders for the alleged cost of its R1 Chatbot and its high performance, but also its statement to be an “open source” project of public spirit in contrast to the closed alternatives of OpenAi and Google.
The open source refers to the practice of programmers who reveal the source code of their software, instead of only the “compiled” program ready to run on a computer.
This has faced the search for income and protection of the intellectual property of private companies.
The goal developer, Depseek and AI based in France, Mistral, claim to differentiate themselves allowing developers to access free access to the internal functioning of their tools.
A member of the Reddit group asked Altman if Depseek has changed his plans for future Operai models.
“It’s a very good model,” Altman said about Deepseek.
“We will produce better models, but we will maintain less leadership than in previous years.”
