The filmmaker Mania Matnam recently shared that he initially considered to launch Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol for his 2000 success Alai Payuthey But finally he abandoned the idea because he could not finish the climax of the film.
The romantic musical in Tamil language, starring R. Madhavan and Shalini, was then remote in Hindi as Saathiyawith Rani Mukerji and Vivek Oberi. The film tells the story of two young people who escape and marry, just to face difficulties as cracks begin to appear in their relationship.
In the open forum of G5A’s retrospect, the filmmaker Mania Matnam shared: “What he had planned to do with Shah Rukh was Alai Payuthey. I wanted to do it with Shah Rukh and Kajol, and I told him the story, and he agreed. But he had not deciphered the last element of the story. If you have seen Alai Payuthey, it is built around a day, and we continue to return to that one day, and when the accident occurs and the wife is looking for it. The filmmaker explained that he was able to solve the missing element of Alai Payuthey while making his 1998 film Dil sewhich starred Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala. “Once I finished Dil Se, I could solve this problem with Alai Payuthey and I was still interested in doing so,” he added.

The director shared his belief that each film undergoes multiple changes during the film process, from the beginning to the cast and edition. “You’re never sure you’re right … You’re still trying. Even when you’ve written completely, when you shoot, you’re looking for something else because it is still being built,” he explained.
Mania Mouse also said that films are “pieces of people and pieces of life”, and strives to make them feel like a “reflection of a lifetime.” “You must raise it … the actors have to come and do it alive. If they do not, you can shout them,” he joked, adding that the adjustment process continues even in the editing room.
A three -day retrospective on the work of Manzenam was celebrated from January 24 to 26 by the non -profit organization G5A in the G5A warehouse in southern Mumbai. The retrospect presented projections of his iconic films such as Nayakan, Bombay, Raavan, Kannathil Muthamittal, Kaatru Veliyidai, Alai Payuthey and Iruvar.
