The Motorola Edge 40 is the last participant in the smartphone list under RS. 30,000 in India, which currently seems to be the hot segment of the industry, since it has witnessed a large number of new releases lately. It is also quite full of people such as the Redmi Note 12 pro+ 5g (review), Iqoo neo 7 (review) and the little F5 5g (review) recently released. While most smartphones around this price aim to be the cat of all operations, many of them prioritize performance. The Edge 40 of Motorola, on the other hand, is distinguished with its elegant design and some specific murderer specifications.
Run as Successor of Motorola Edge 30 (review) last year, the Edge 40 packs a promising hardware for the price. With everything that is offered, does Motorola Edge 40 have a real advantage over competition? Here is our full review to help you find out.
Motorola Edge 40 Price in India
Motorola has launched the EDGE 40 in a single storage configuration of 8 GB of RAM + 256 GB in India. The phone has a price of RS. 29,999. It is available in three color options: Nebula Green, Eclipse Black and Lunar Blue. The two previous variants have a vegan leather rear panel, while the last option has a back of PMMA acrylic.
Motorola Edge 40 Design and screen
The design is often subjective, but what many users would appreciate is a telephone that offers a premium sensation in the hand. The Motorola Edge 40 certainly marks the box here in my opinion with its false leather rear panel. The company sent us the Nebula green color, which certainly seems to be the tone of the season. This is perhaps one of my favorite green tones after the Lima Green color of the OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite 5g (Review) and the color of Lima of the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G (review). With edge 40, it is not only the attractive color but also the sensation in the hand.
Motorola Edge 40 is only 7.58 mm thick
The textured surface, together with the curved edges of the phone and light construction (7.58 mm thick, 171 g of weight) adds to the excellent sensation in the hand. In addition, you also get a metal frame and an IP68 classification for water and dust resistance, which is not common in phones under RS. 30,000.
In the front of the Edge 40 of Motorola, there is a pole curved edge of 6.6 inches with very thin bezels at the top and lower part, which helps to offer an immersive visualization experience. However, the extreme curvature on the sides of the screen and the thin-shaped factor led to many accidental touches, creating a ghost-to -to effect while playing. I would have preferred a less pronounced curvature, such as that of Realme 10 pro+ 5g (review).
Motorola Edge 40 has a quite thin chin bevel
The Full-HD+ resolution screen offers good visualization angles, but the colors are quite saturated by default for that vivid experience. You can obtain more natural and warmer tones by changing to the ‘natural’ configuration in the screen configuration. The Motorola Edge 40 also has an HDR10+reproduction certification, but applications such as Netflix and YouTube could not detect it when I tried it. The fingerprint sensor in the sample works well and is also placed properly under the screen, which makes it comfortable to use.
Edge 40 is currently the only smartphone under RS. 30,000 in India to offer a 144Hz update rate screen. However, it seems that many applications have not yet taken advantage of this as in my experience, the screen was executed mainly between 60Hz and 120Hz.
Motorola Edge 40 Specifications and Software
The Motorola Edge 40 includes a new SIFNSITY 8020 Mediatek, which is essentially an adjusted version of Dimensity 1100 SOC. It comes with 8 GB of RAM LPDDR4X with 256 GB of UFS storage 3.1. There is a 4,400 mAh battery with a 68W turbocharger load support. In particular, there is also a 15W wireless load support, which is unheard of in this segment.
In software terms, Motorola Edge 40 is executed in the last myux skin based on Android 13. Motorola’s personalized skin is among the few Android foils to offer a clean software experience and add several features at the top. Edge 40 has no third -party bloatware. Continue to offer support for several customization and customization options, such as changing icons, wallpapers, sources, sound, etc.
Motorola also offers support for several gestures that can trigger certain tasks, such as touching twice the rear panel to activate personalized actions, twisting the wrist twice to open the camera, lighting or off the torch with two karate cutting movements, etc.
The Motorola Edge 40 user interface is quite clean and soft
The company also offers Lenovo’s company security and privacy characteristics within the Moto Secure application. Users can verify all permits together with the privacy indicators for access to the camera, the microphone and the location within the application.
Motorola has promised to provide two main updates of Android and security support for three years for edge 40.
Motorola Edge 40 Performance and battery life
The 7020 SOC Dimensity at Edge 40 of Motorola is quite powerful for its segment. Whether routine tasks, such as changing between applications, moving through social networks, etc., or playing games, the device offered an experience without problems in most cases. In BGMI, I was able to play with the ‘ultra’ framerate and HDR graphics. Initially, I noticed some stuttering while playing in the highest configuration, however, after a couple of rounds, the performance was quite soft. Call of Duty: Mobile, on the other hand, worked without problems.
I noticed that the phone is heated slightly around the camera module after approximately 45 minutes of play, which seemed normal. In fact, taking into account how thin it is the phone, it would give a Motorola bonus point for good heat dissipation that secured sustained performance during extended game sessions.
The Motorola Edge 40 scored 7,64,083 points in Antutu (V10) that is behind the current segment leader, the little F5, which scored 1,094,798 points. In Geekbench 6, the phone obtained 1,103 and 3,588 points in the tests of a single nucleus and multiple nuclei.
Motorola Edge 40 comes with a 68w charger in the box
In terms of battery life, Motorola Edge 40 can last a full day with medium and free use. However, play for an hour or so and you may have to load the device at the end of the day. Border 40, on average, gave me 7 hours, 30 minutes of screen time. In our HD video loop, the phone lasted 15 hours, 31 minutes, which is just above average.
Fortunately, you get 68 w of fast charging and during our tests, the advantage of 40 from zero to 75 percent in 30 minutes constantly loaded. You also get a 15W wireless load, which can be useful if you have wireless loaders at home or at work.
Motorola Edge 40 cameras
The Motorola Edge 40 presents a double camera configuration with a F/1.47 primary camera of 50 megapixels with support for the stabilization of optical images (OI). There is also a 13 megapixel sensor with a wide ultra lens that can also take macro images. For selfies, Edge 40 presents a 32 megapixel front camera.
The main chamber captures good details, but sometimes the image affects too much. In addition, the colors are too saturated to offer a vibrant appearance. While the software tries to improve the dynamic range in processing, it can be an unpredictable. Thanks to the wide opening, the main chamber offers a shallow depth when firing foreground subjects. With little light, there is a good balance of details and colors with well exposed shadows and controlled reflexes.

The ultra wide camera is also quite good for the price. There is distortion around the edges, but that is quite common for ultra broad chamber lenses. The ultra width sensor is also compatible with the automatic approach, which means that it can get a lot to a subject to shoot high resolution macro shots. This is a much better implementation than the 2 megapixel macro sensors that we see in many smartphones at different price points. That said, macro images were not as precise as they could have been.
Motorola Edge 40 Ultra Wide Macro Chamber Samples (full -size touch)
The main rear camera can shoot images of portraits at 24 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm. While the segmentation of subjects is precise in most cases, the blur seems unnatural and skin tones looked too soft when capturing human subjects.
Motorola Edge 40 main camera samples (from top to bottom: 24 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm portrait modes)
The front camera cannot obtain the skin tones correctly most of the time. I could see a slight red tone in the selfies by clicking Motorola Edge 40. In addition, while the portrait mode offers a creamy bottom edge, it also bordered parts of my face.

In terms of video recording, Motorola Edge 40 can shoot up to 4K 30 FPS or 1080P 60 FPS. I liked the general color reproduction and the dynamic range performance of the rear and frontal cameras. The rear camera comes with OIS, which does a decent job. There is also a horizon blocking function, which blocks the orientation of the frame even when the phone turns upside down while recording 1080p videos.
Verdict
The Motorola Edge 40 packs a hardware capable wrapped in a curvilinear and elegant body that shouts premium from distance. The phone offers an excellent feeling in hand, an excellent multimedia experience and a relatively good performance. The software is also quite rich in functions and clean.
The EDGE 40 also offers some features that are not reported in the segment, such as an IP68 classification, a 144Hz curved edge screen and wireless load.
However, cameras definitely need more work. While hardware and characteristics seem solid on paper, Motorola needs to work to optimize them even more for that competitive advantage.
If you want an off smartphone under RS. 30,000 and are willing to compromise a little in the cameras, you can consider the Motorola Edge 40. We believe that the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G (review) and the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G (review) offer a slightly better camera performance. For raw processing power, it can certainly consider the little F5 (review).
