They saw batteries of clothing, shoes, bags and other discarded belongings on the ground after a stampery in Maha Kumbh of Prayagraj exploded, the world’s largest religious meeting, this morning.

How the stampery happened in Maha Kumbh Mela

The stampex occurred between 1 in the morning and 2 in the morning when some devotees rose on the barricades in Akhara Marg, said Pradesh’s Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath.

“I’ve been talking to Prime Minister Yogi Ji and I am constantly contacting the state government,” he said.

Nicknamed the world’s largest spiritual meeting, Maha Kumbh will take place after 12 years and began in Prayagraj on January 13. It will continue until February 26.

The Sangam is considered the most sacred by the Hindus, with the belief that giving a dip during Maha Kumbh and particularly on special bath dates such as Mauni Amavasya eliminates people’s sins and provides ‘Moksha’ or salvation.
