The third edition of the Mahindra Percussion Festival, in association with The HinduBangalore will return on March 1 and 2 at the Perimpose Center for Performing Arts. This year, the Festival will be a tribute to the lasting legacy of Padma Vibhushan, the late Ustad Zakir Hussain, with performances of local talents.
Through its innovative and fascinating musical efforts, Ustad Zakir Hussain helped Indian classical music to obtain global recognition, and the third edition of the festival will celebrate this perspective towards music as a universal entity.
The first day of the festival will feature the virtuous percussionist Trilok Gurtu. Having collaborated with legends such as L. Shankar, John McLaughlin, Ustad Zakir Hussain and others, Mr. Gurtu will bring a set of different world class rhythms around the world to his concert.
Another set of the night will be the Thrillana Thrillana project by Aruna Sairam. The work of Mrs. Sairam includes artists such as Sangeet Haldipur, BC Manjunath, Jyotsana Srikanth, Arun Kumar, Giridhar Udupa and Shalini Mohan.
Son of the remarkable table player, the deceased PT. Prabhakar Chary, and a disciple of the teacher Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, Ravi Chary will exhibit his solo project ‘Crossing’. The album was released by the Ustad Zakir Hussain, and presents some of the previous artists at the festival, including Ranjit Barot, Taufiq Qureshi and others.
The second day will show the new sound of Indian percussion, with Mr. Barot as the composer, and the Director of theater Rysten Abel organizing his musical production ‘Beatroute’. This musical ODE joins the past and the present, the masculine and female, and the everyday with the popular divine and amalgamante rhythms with the modern electronic music and the battery of Mr. Barot.
The last day will also feature Snax, which will merge the energy of rock and metal, Ramkumar Kanakarajan and Mridangam’s jazz sumed Narayanan.
