The state cabinet has approved the implementation of the Kerala health system improvement program under the Department of Health by taking a loan for a sum of ₹ 2,424.28 million rupees ($ 280 million) of the World Bank. The program will be implemented in the results program model (P for R).

The program is essentially aimed at improving the life expectancy and quality of life of people helping them to build a life free of preventable diseases, accidents and premature deaths. All interventions under this program will be for the well -being of the poor.

The program aims to build a resistant health system capable of addressing all emerging health problems while addressing demographic and epidemiological problems evolving in the state.

This initiative is expected to be implemented with the coordination of several departments, help Kerala improve the efficiency of their health services and launch an response measured to all emerging health challenges, including climate change problems.

Program objectives

Some of the program’s objectives are developing an ecosystem that will help reduce infectious diseases; Prepare the health system to respond to new health challenges safely; Improvement of trauma care and emergency medicine through the creation of an efficient network of emergency care facilities, including ambulance service and a trauma record that works 24 hours; increase the care of the elderly involving local self -government institutions; Improve human resources in health and their efficiency; Universalize digital health applications and improve health investment.

The cabinet said Kerala is much ahead in public health. In the maternal and child health area, the State has already exceeded the objectives established under the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Additional load

However, emerging health challenges, inadequate investment in public health and increased morbidity due to noncommunicable diseases, promoted by unhealthy lifestyles, have been creating an additional load for the state health system .

Although initiatives such as the Aardram mission, Arogya Jagratha (health surveillance) and Karunya Aragya Suraksha Padhati to help the State to face the new health challenges and provide universal health coverage, the state needs a new model of service provision model were devised To administer the most efficient challenges, it has been considered.
