Jaishankar said that India and the Middle East efforts can be projected further in Africa, Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia

The Minister of External Affairs, S. Jaishankar, highlighted on Tuesday the important expansion of the participation of Eastern India in the last decade, promoted by a strong trade, connectivity and world ties beyond.

When heading to the inaugural session of Raisina Middle East here, Jaishankar said that the Middle East region, which India calls Western Asia, is crucial for the strategic interests of India. The country’s trade in the Gulf region amounts to approximately USD 160 to USD 180 billion.

“Our presence in the Gulf is generalized and crucial. More than 9 million Indians live and work here, but the Gulf also serves as a gateway to the Mena and Mediterranean region, “Jaishankar said.

“Our annual trade with the Mediterranean, by the way, is another USD 80 billion, and the Indian diaspora are about half a million,” said the minister, adding that Indian projects in the region include airports, ports, railways , phosphates, green hydrogen, steel and submarine cables.

Jaishankar said that India and the Middle East efforts can be projected further in Africa, Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia.

“There may not be a domain that has a stronger case for this plurilateral cooperation than that of connectivity … Maritime security is another problem in which understandings and mechanisms will have to intervene to fill the global deficits.

In conclusion, Jaishankar said that the Middle East is an extended neighborhood with which India has completely reconnected, and New Delhi needs to deepen its commitment to the region.

The minister also met with Anwar Garsh, diplomatic advisor to the president of the EAU, on Tuesday morning and discussed the special association between India and Eau and his greatest progress.
