India protest for the shots of the Marina de Sri Lanka to the fishermen who left several injured

The Ministry of External Affairs has protested against Sri Lanka after its Navy opened fire against Indian fishermen near Delft island in the Palk Strait on Early Tuesday (January 28, 2025), leaving two serious injuries and three With minor wounds.

The incident occurred during the apprehension of 13 Indian fishermen. The two severely injured fishermen are receiving treatment at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, where Indian Consulate officials visited them to provide assistance.

The MEA summoned the high interim commissioner of Sri Lanka in New Delhi to present a formal protest. The high commission of India in Colombo also raised the problem with the authorities of Sri Lanka.

“The use of force is not acceptable under any circumstance,” said the ministry, emphasizing that fishermen’s problems should be handled humanly considering their life concerns.

The Ministry requested a strict observance of existing bilateral agreements with respect to fishing activities in the region.
