India condemned on Thursday the vandalism of the founding leader of Bangladesh, the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman residence in Dhaka, qualifying the law as “unfortunate.”
In response to media consultations about vandalism if Rahman’s residence, the spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal occupation and oppression, was destroyed on February 5, 2025. “
“All who value the struggle for freedom that nurtured the identity and pride of Bangla are aware of the importance of this residence for Bangladesh’s national conscience. This act of vandalism must be strongly condemned,” he added.
On Wednesday, a mafia destroyed Rahman’s residence in Dhaka, Dhaka Tribune reported. The images showed flames on one of the floors of the house.
According to reports, protesters, demanding a ban on the Awami League, broke into the facilities after opening the door, causing generalized destruction, Dhaka Tribune reported, citing UNB.
Local media linked the protest with an online speech by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Publications on social networks had previously requested an “excavators procession” towards the residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman located in Dhanmondi-32 if Sheikh Huina pronounced a speech, as reported by Dhaka Tribune.
At 10.45 pm (local time), an excavator had been led to demolish the house. The protesters, who reached a rally around 8 pm, made their way at the main door before proceeding to destroy the property. According to the Dhaka Tribune report, many protesters rose to the second floor, using hammers, levers and wooden planks to destroy portraits of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and sections of damage to the historical house.
