The Uttarakhand government has appointed a village in each of its 13 districts as a “Sanskrit Aldea Adarsh (ideal)” to preserve and promote the ancient Indian language, which is also the second language of the State, the Minister of State Education Dhan Singh Rawat, said Tuesday on Tuesday.
Qualifying Sanskrit as’Devvani‘(Language of the gods), Mr. Rawat said that his preservation and promotion was a key priority of the government.
“We have made Adarsh Sanskrit peoples in each district where the old language will be promoted in a way that the new generation is connected with the traditions of Indian philosophy and knowledge through Sanskrit,” he said.
Daily Sanskrit
The State has designated space instructors who will train residents of these villages to communicate in Sanskrit in their daily lives. The villagers will be motivated to recite the verses of the Vedas, Puranas and Upanishads while carrying out several religious rites, and will encourage women and children to sing religious songs in Sanskrit during festivals and celebrations, said the minister.
“The children of the castes and tribes scheduled to study Sanskrit will even be encouraged to promote harmony between the different sections in these villages,” he added.
The authorities said that until now 13 villages have been declared as ideal Sanskrit peoples: Noorpur Panjhanhedi in Haridwar, Bhogpur in Dehradun, Kotgaon in Uttarkashi, dimmarge in Chamoli, God in Pauri, Baiiji in Rudrayag, Mukhem in Tehri at the Garhwal Region, and Phanyy, and Phanyl in Nainital, Jainti in Almora, Kharkkarki in Champawat, URG in Pithoragarh, Sheri in Bageshwar and Nagla Tarai in Udham Singh Nagar in the state region of the state.
The scheme was first conceptualized by the government of the Bharatiya Janata (BJP) party under the regime of former Trivendra Singh Rawat minister in 2019, with pilot projects that begin in the districts of Chamoli and Bageshwar.
The State also has more than 100 Sanskrit medium schools.
