Chandigarh:

The Chandigarh Mayoral Survey is scheduled to witness a great contest between the BJP and the AAP Congress alliance with officials indicating that all the necessary arrangements have been made for the elections, which will take place on Thursday.

The elections for the positions of the mayor, the main subcusant and the deputy mayor will be held in the Hall of the Assembly of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, the authorities said.

Meanwhile, the Chandigarh administration imposed on Wednesday section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which prohibits the meeting of five or more people less than 100 meters from the perimeter of the Chandigarh MC building.

Kumdeep Kumar Dhalor de AAP is the head of Chandigarh.

AAP and Congress are playing the mayor’s elections as an alliance. While AAP is playing the mayor’s post, Congress has presented its candidates, Jasbir Singh Bunty and Taruna Mehta, for the positions of the mayor and Vicealcalde Senior, respectively.

The AAP has introduced its premium councilor for the mayor’s post, while the BJP has nominated Harpreet Kaur Babla.

For the positions of the senior mayor and Vicealcalde, the BJP has nominated Bimla Dubey and Lakhbir Singh Billu, respectively.

In the 35 members of the Chandigarh MC, the AAP has 13 councilors and its ally Congress has six, while the BJP has 16 councilors.

A few days ago, the councilor of Congress Gurbax Rawat joined the BJP, increasing the strength of the BJP to 16.

In addition, Chandigarh’s deputy also has a voting right as an ex -officer of the Municipal Corporation of 35 members. The current deputy is Manish Tewari of Congress.

Meanwhile, officials confirmed on Wednesday that there are necessary agreements for mayor surveys on Thursday.

The nominated councilor Ramneek Singh Bedi has been appointed president of the elections, while the former judge of the Superior Court of Punjab and Haryana (RETD) Jaishree Thakur has been appointed independent observer for the mayor’s survey by the Supreme Court.

The order of January 27 occurred in response to a plea of the councilor and mayor of AAP Kuldeep Kumar, looking for a “hand sample” instead of a “secret vote” to guarantee equity in the voting process.

The authorities confirmed on Wednesday that surveys will be carried out through a secret vote.

The Superior Court also directed that the electoral procedures are carried out in the presence of the observer and should be duly videographic.

In the Mayor elections of 2024, Kumdeep Kumar of AAP was declared mayor of the Chandigarh MC by the Supreme Court on February 20 of last year, after canceling the result of the survey of Mayor of Chandigarh in which the BJP candidate had been declared winner.

The then president, Anil Masih, was caught in the Chamber invalidating eight ballots that were in favor of the AAP-Congress Alliance.
