Very Important Persons (VIPs) arriving and departing from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) can look forward to a ride in high-end Electric Vehicles (EVs). VIP passengers transiting between the aircraft and the VIP terminal can avail services of the EV fleet, which comprises two BMW i7 and one all-electric MINI Countryman.
The Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) has signed a three year contract with BMW for the EVs. According to BMW, the cars will be used by all dignitaries, leading businessmen, and eminent personalities transiting through the VIP terminal of the airport.
Airport officials said that earlier Lexus cars were used for VIP movements within the airport, which has now been replaced with the new EV fleet in order to promote sustainability and reduce carbon footprint. “The vehicles will be provided based on prior bookings made by the VIP passengers,” airport officials said.
“The first-ever BMW i7 and the all-electric MINI Countryman, now the official choice for VIP movements at KIA’s VIP terminal, redefine premium travel with their unmatched elegance and zero-emission performance. As dignitaries, business leaders, and eminent personalities transit through Bengaluru, they will experience the epitome of electric luxury and cutting-edge technology, setting new benchmarks for responsible mobility in India,” said Vikram Pawah, president and CEO, BMW Group India.
The airport already has a fleet of EV airport taxis comprising compact SUVs.
