Heavy passenger congestion due to a delay in the departure of multiple trains led to chaos at the New Delhi Railway Station on Sunday (March 23, 2025) but there was no “stampede” or injuries as the police stepped in and managed the situation, a police official said.
A source said large crowds had gathered on platform numbers 12 and 13 of the station due to the delay in the departure of the Shiv Ganga Express, Swatantrata Senani Express, Jammu Rajdhani Express, Lucknow Mail, and the Magadh Express.

As the rush increased, necessary crowd control measures were promptly taken to avoid any kind of untoward incidents, a senior police officer said.
‘Situation was better’
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) KPS Malhotra said, “There was some extra crowd and rush, but no stampede took place. A little later, a few trains left, and the situation was better. Nobody has been injured…”
In February 2025, 18 people, including women and children, were killed after a stampede broke out at the railway station as passengers waited to board trains to go to the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
