German President’s X Account Hacked: The hack was flagged by several X users when the account’s username was changed to @adolf_gov and its description was changed to “Make Germany Great Again”.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier
The official X (formally Twitter) account of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was hacked and modified to look like a handle of the Bihar government’s Water Resources Department.
The hackers also made the account look like a verified page of the erstwhile Nazi Party’s chief Adolf Hitler. The German government has not made an official statement regarding the incident.
The hack was flagged by several X users when the account’s username was changed to @adolf_gov and its description was changed to “Make Germany Great Again”, akin to US President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan.
The description of the account then read, “Make Germany Great Again. Decentralisation is what will help me to implement my plans.”
The X account was then briefly suspended after which it reappeared later with the username ‘Water Resources Department of the government of Bihar’.
While the account was hacked, posts included an image of Hitler with Italian dictator Benito Mussolini with the caption “Remember: when you stand together, when your goal is the same, when your spirit is unshakable, nothing can stop you. #MGGA”.
The post has since been removed from the account.
