The chief coach of India, Gautam Gambhir and the test, and Odi Rohit Sharma’s captain has not reached the best of the beginning, at least when it comes to the results in the field. In their short time working together, Gambhir and Rohit have lost an ODI series in Sri Lanka and then consecutive test series against New Zealand and Australia. However, Gambhir’s childhood coach Sanjay Bharadwaj chose Rohit Sharma as the best captain, stating that young people have told him stories about how a fun captain is to play.
Given a selection between MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir of his Captaincy Days of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Bharadwaj chose Rohit.
“When I talk to the young people and players of the team, they tell me it’s Rohit Sharma,” Bharadwaj said, speaking in an interview with The Raunac podcast.
“They (the young) tell me that he (Rohit) supports you a lot. It is very fun to play with him. He is a person who loves fun, so it’s fun to play with him, they say,” said Bharadwaj about Rohit .
The future of Rohit Sharma as Captain of India, particularly in the Test Cricket, has been under intense scrutiny in recent weeks. The 37-year-old chose to sit down for the fifth test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy in Australia, after having scored 31 races in five games until that moment.
In three tests below, India lost two and drew a low Rohit.
After guiding India to his first major CPI trophy in 11 years with the triumph of the World Cup T20 2024, Rohit has suffered a difficult time as a captain, and also suffers a shameful series of Calveras 0-3 at home against Nueva Zealand.
However, while his future test is in the air, Rohit will continue Captain of India in the next ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be a great fire test for him and the Gambhir association to the rudder of the Indian Cricket.
