The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government is playing politics over the three-language policy, alleged G.K. Vasan, president of the Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar), in Namakkal on Sunday.
Mr. Vasan, who participated in a meeting with the party cadre from Salem, Namakkal, Erode, and Karur districts, discussed strategy for 2026 Assembly elections. He told reporters the DMK government was raising unnecessary issues and clashing with the Union Government to divert attention from its failures.
The New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was formulated by the Union government through educationists. But the Tamil Nadu government is refusing to accept it. The NEP said that along with their mother tongue and English, the students may select any other language as third language. The State government’s opposition to NEP will affect the children studying in government schools, he said.
Alleging that law and order was deteriorating in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Vasan claimed that due to liquor, there was an increase in murders, thefts, and crimes against women. Without any official announcement on the delimitation of Parliamentary constituencies, the DMK was doing politics and protesting.
All the Opposition parties should come under one alliance to win the 2026 Assembly elections and the TMC (M) MLAs would enter the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Mr. Vasan added.
