Several doctors in Western Bengala have alleged that they are being attacked by the authorities to speak against them during protests that demand justice for a postgraduate doctor who was raped and killed in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata last year.
The incident caused outrage, with doctors from all over the State demanding better government security and responsibility measures.
Now, two junior doctors and several superior doctors are under the scanner, even when the movement is in their last stretch, and the only convict receives life imprisonment.
On the eve of the Day of the Republic, four superior doctors of government hospitals, Dr. Manas Gumta, Dr. Utpal Banerjee, Dr. Subarna Goswami and Dr. Ranjan Bhattacharya, discovered that the Western Bengal Medical Council there were Presented complaints against them. (WBMC).
‘Work obstruction’
Talking with The HinduDr. Goswami said that although they have not yet received an official complaint, they have been informed about the action taken by the WBMC. According to Dr. Goswami, the complaint alleges that they are obstructing the work of the WBMC. “Of course we are. We have clogged their work to collect money and do bad things under this banner, ”he said.
Dr. Goswami said he has faced a previous reaction before, when the RG Kar movement was at its peak in August last year. Together with others, he was summoned to the Kolkata police headquarters about the accusations of dissemination of erroneous information. However, the incident caused a lot of emotional support, which finally led to the complaint.
‘Malicious accusations’
Dr. Tapas Pramanick, a medical officer of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has faced accusations of a “role in medical questions.” He has written to the state health complaint cell that he calls them “malicious.” “As I have been vocal during the movement and spoken against the government, they are trying to take energetic measures and silence me.”
The Junior resident doctors of the RG Kar hospital, including Asfakullah Naiya and Kinjal Nanda, have faced similar accusations. Dr. Naiya received a warning of the WBMC for practicing as a specialist at AT in a private clinic in Hooghly without having received its title.
The situation intensified when around 30 police personnel registered their home in Kakdwip, South 24-Paraganas, the same day. However, the Superior Court of Calcutta intervened, maintaining the investigation.
“I have spoken against the government. If you have any enmity, you should be with me. The raids should have happened in my presence. Challenge to face me in person, ”said Dr. Naiya.
Dr. Nanda, who has also acted in some films, has received a letter from the WBMC asking about his assistance and his work in films. He has responded by stating that if any association has questions about their income, they must verify their income tax statements and that their recreational activities are beyond the reach of the WBMC.
Kunal Ghosh, spokesman for the Trinamool Congress and former deputy of Rajya Sabha, accused doctors of playing the victim’s letter. “They are expressing pain, protests and working in films and series, all at the same time. How do you manage time? Maybe this molded a section of doctors. It is an internal problem among doctors, ”he said.
Meanwhile, 12 doctors, suspended in relation to the “case of administration of defeated saline” in Medinipur Medical College, are being interrogated at the headquarters of the West Bengal Police in Kolkata.
Several sections of doctors have alleged that the suspensions were simply a “fun tactic” to remove the attention of the main problem: the “questionable” quality of the saline of timbre lactate that led to the death of a woman and a newly born.
