The CISF Coastal Cyclothon reached Kavali in SPSR Nellore district late on Saturday evening from Chirala in Bapatla district.
The delegation arrived to a rousing reception from local dignitaries and students.
Marking its 56th Raising Day, CISF launched the Cycle Rally with the theme ‘Surakshit Tat – Samriddh Bharat’ (Secured Coast – Prosperous India).
Rally, in two groups of 25 members each, started simultaneously from the East and West coasts of India. While one group started from Lakhpat, Gujarat in the West, the other started simultaneously from Bakkhali in Bengal in the East, meant to traverse along the 6,553 kilometer-long coastline of Indian mainland.
Both the cycling teams will meet at the southern tip of Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu).
The rally is expected to be completed in 25 days by traversing 11 States/Union Territories to culminate at Swami Vivekananda Memorial on March 31.
Interestingly, this Cyclothon, which was flagged off virtually by Minister for Home Amit Shah on March 3, will be the first cycle rally to traverse the entire coast of mainland India.
This cyclothon from the East has so far covered 1751 km by traveling all the way from Bakkhali in Bengal to Chirala in Andhra Pradesh, covering a vast area along the eastern coastline.
As part of their route, the cyclists traversed key coastal regions such as Puri, Sompeta, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Annavaram, Amalapuram, Machilipatnam, Chirala and Kavali, engaging in community outreach programs en route to spread awareness on maritime safety, coastal security and disaster preparedness.
Senior Commandant, CISF Unit SDSC-SHAR Sriharikota Sanjeet and Assistant Commandant, CISF Unit SDSC-SHAR Sriharikota Vikram Singh, Deputy Commandant, CISF Unit at STPP Simhadri, Vineet Kumar Prabhaker were present on the occasion.
