New Delhi:
Opposition parliamentarians in the Chamber Panel that examine the WAQF amendment bill have alleged that BJP members in the Committee ignored their objections and that the recommendations made in the report are not in the spirit of the Constitution . The parliamentarians alleged that they received the report of 655 pages last night and barely had time to study it and make recommendations.
The Joint Parliamentary Committee today adopted the draft of the report after a majority vote of 16-11. The report will be submitted to Lok Sabha speaker, Om Birla, tomorrow. The opposition parliamentarians have submitted their notes disagreed with the report.
The president of the panel and veteran leader of BJP, Jagdambika Pal, said that several amendments approved by the Committee approached the concerns of the members of the opposition. He said that the proposed law will help WAQF boards work more efficiently.
When asked if the bill would be reintroduced in Parliament in the next budget session, Pal said that is for the speaker to decide.
However, opposition parliamentarians in the panel have alleged that the proposed law would destroy the WAQF meetings and lead to government interference in its operation. The reports say that 66 amendments were proposals: 23 by parliamentarians of BJP and 44 of the opposition. The opposition parliamentarians said that although most of the recommendations of the BJP parliamentarians were accepted, theirs were rejected.
“This is not in favor of Waqf. I have been saying from the beginning that the BJP has brought this bill against Muslims. Its objective is to damage the Waqf meetings and take mosques. When this bill is brought to Parliament, We will also oppose there. Asaduddin Owaisi said.
The deputy of the Congress Syed Naseer Hussain said that the amendments backed by the panel were “unconstitutional” and claimed that the proposed law aims to attack minorities. “Many objections and suggestions were not included in this report. The Government made the report according to their desire,” he said.
DMK deputy to Raja said he received the draft yesterday’s report with 650 pages at 10 pm. “How can you expect that Parliament members give a dissent note during the night? It has become a mockery,” he said, added that the DMK will challenge legislation in the courts.
Kalyan Banerjee of the Trinamool Congress said the recommendations of the Committee are “totally perverse.” “The victims’ statements have not been taken into account. What we said during the deliberations have not been taken into account. The question that arises is, the opinion of the interested parties we have expressed, why didn’t you appeal to the president? JPC The procedures have become mockery.
Shiv Sena deputy (UBT), Arvind Sawant, said the proposed amendments are against the Constitution. “Until yesterday, people used to go through elections in WAQF, but now they are eliminating the elections. People will be nominated there, and the central government will do so. Today, there is a willingness to take the non -Muslims to Waqf, so tomorrow They could do the same in our temples because the issue of equality will appear in the Constitution, “Sawant said.
“Many objections and suggestions that have not been included in this report were made. The Government has made the report according to them. Especially the Muslim community.”
The WAQF (amendment) bill, 2024, was sent to the Chamber Panel on August 8 after the Minister of Mining Affairs of La Unión, Kiren Rijiju, presented it in Lok Sabha.
