The Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2025 was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on March 18 to bring all assets under the purview of rural local authorities under their network of financial resources.
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs H. K. Patil tabled the bill to amend the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act 1993, and extend provisions of property tax to the premises and buildings in unauthorised settlements, other than government land and to unauthorised buildings in official settlements, as provided in the 1993 Act.
It proposes a penalty on officers in case of non-compliance with provisions of the law.
Professional tax
The Assembly passed the Karnataka Tax on Profession, Trades, Callings, and Employments (Amendment) Bill to increase the professional tax from ₹2,400 to ₹2,500 per annum for salaried or wage earners whose monthly income is ₹25,000 and above. It was mentioned in the State budget for 2025-26.
