The BCCI convened a special general meeting (SGM) in Mumbai on March 1 to appoint a new joint secretary after the position was vacant after the elevation of Devjit Saikia to the post of the Secretary of the Board. Saikia of the Assam Cricket’s Cricket Association had happened to Jay Shah in the position of the secretary last month, after the latter assumed the position of President of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 1. The BCCI sent SGM’s notice to state associations with a single item agenda.
“Therefore, there is a notice for a special general meeting (hereinafter, called SGM) of the BCCI that will take place at 12:00 pm, the BCCI joint secretary,” the Apex Board said in a statement.
The names of the former president of the Cricket Association of Bengala (CAB) Avishek Dalmiya (Eastern Zone), the head of the Cricket Association of Delhi and District (DDCA) Rohan Jaitley (North Zone) and the Mumbai Crick Association ( MCA) Sanjay Naik (West Zone) are doing the round rounds.
As happened in the case of BCCI’s secretary and treasurer, there will be no choice to choose the new joint secretary of the Board.
As a general rule, a 21 -day warning is required to call an SGM and the BCCI has followed the requirement.
This will be the second SGM in less than two months, after the previous one held on January 12, where Saikia was chosen as the new secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as the new treasurer. Both were chosen without opposition.
The work of the joint secretary is to supervise several administrative tasks and work in close collaboration with other members of the Board to ensure that its operations are executed efficiently.
