After having sealed his place in the final of the World Testing Championship (WTC), Australia will face Sri Lanka in the rubber of two tests, in what seems like a preparation for the defending champions in the longest format of the game. Australia will face South Africa in the WTC 2023-25 final in the Lord at the end of this year of June.
The first of the two tests begins from January 29 in Galle. Sri Lanka is reaching the series after a disappointing loss against South Africa. Directed by Dhananjaya de Silva, the islanders will be eager to recover at home and finish the WTC cycle in a winning note.
For Australia, who have come without the regular captain Pat Cummins, it will be a test for the batters to show their skills in the Asian subcontinent. Steve Smith will put on the captain’s hat in Cummins.

Until now, both teams have played 33 tests among them since 1983. Australia has won up to 20 tests. Sri Lanka came out victorious in just five tests, while eight games ended in raffles. In the 14 series until now, Australia has won 11 with Sri Lanka winning in just two, in 1999 and 2016.
