A small plane crashed in a remote part of South Sudan, killing at least 18 people on Wednesday, an official said.

The flight, rented by the Chinese oil firm, Greater pioneer operating co. early.

The plane crashed while taking off near an oil field to go to the Juba International Airport, the capital of South Sudan, he said.

Local media reported that the plane carried oil workers.

Radio Miraya affiliated with the UN, citing the flight manifesto, informed that the victims included mainly Sudanese from the south, an Indian and two Chinese citizens.

It was not clear immediately what the accident caused, and the authorities had not yet revealed the identities of the victims.

South Sudan, which obtained the independence of Sudan in 2011, is an important oil producer in the region. The Eastern Nation of Africa has been trying to increase oil production and exports amid persistent cash flow problems for the Government.
