In a significant geopolitical movement, the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, ordered the withdrawal of the country of the World Health Organization (WHO), citing deep differences with the United Nations Agency. A presidential spokesman confirmed the decision on Wednesday, indicating an important change in Argentina’s global health policy.
Milei’s decision is aligned with the position of his ally, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, who had initiated the process of taking out the United States from whom with an executive order the first day of return in office on 21 January.
Argentina’s decision is based on “deep differences in health management, especially during pandemic (COVID-19),” said spokesman Manuel Adorni at a press conference in Buenos Aires. He said that WHO guidelines had at that time led to the greatest closure “in the history of humanity.”
He also said that who lacked independence due to the political influence of some countries, without elaborating which countries. Argentina will not allow an international organization to intervene in its sovereignty “and much less in our health,” Adorni added.
